Privacy notice

Manchester Commerce is a member-funded chamber of commerce, incorporated as a nonprofit corporation in the State of Vermont. We serve Manchester and the neighboring towns of Arlington, Dorset, Peru, Rupert, Sandgate, Sunderland and Winhall.

We operate the website at manchestercommerce.org and the member platform at app.manchestercommerce.org. We are the organization responsible for the information described here, and Vermont is the governing jurisdiction. Our contact details are at the bottom of this page.

What we collect depends on how you interact with us.

If you visit the website

We collect the basic technical information any website receives, such as which pages were viewed and the general type of device and browser used. We do not use this to build a profile of you as an individual.

If you join our email list

We collect your email address, and your name and business if you choose to give them. We use this to send occasional updates about the chamber and its programming.

If you RSVP to an event

We collect your name, your business, your email address, and anything you choose to tell us in an optional comments field. We use it to send you the event details, to know roughly how many people to expect, and to follow up afterwards with materials from the session.

If you respond to one of our advertisements

When you fill in a form inside Facebook or Instagram in response to an advertisement of ours, we receive what you entered on that form, typically your business name and email address. The advertising platform also gives us aggregate reporting on how the advertisement performed, which does not identify you.

If you create an account on the member platform

We collect what is needed to run an account, including your name, email address, role, and information about your business such as its name, address, category and public contact details. We also record the activity the platform needs in order to work, such as which resources you have opened and which events you have registered for.

Information about businesses from public sources

We maintain a directory of businesses in the area, built partly from public records and publicly available listings. This holds business information such as trade names, addresses and categories, not personal information about individuals. If you would prefer your business were not listed, tell us and we will remove it.

We use the information above to:

• Send you the updates, event details and materials you asked for
• Run events, including knowing who is coming and following up afterwards
• Operate and improve the member platform and the services on it
• Understand which of our programs and topics are useful to local businesses
• Advocate for the area's business community, using aggregated figures rather than anything that identifies you
• Respond when you contact us

We are a small organization and we rely on outside services to operate. They process information on our behalf, under contract, and are not permitted to use it for their own purposes. The categories are:

• Identity and authentication, for member account sign-in
• Application hosting, which processes requests to the website and platform
• Database hosting, where chamber records are stored
• Domain services and file storage
• Email delivery, for our updates and for transactional messages
• Error monitoring, which may incidentally capture information present in the context of a technical fault
• Form and registration tools, used for some event sign-ups
• Advertising platforms, where you have responded to an advertisement of ours on their service

We describe these by category rather than by name so that this notice stays accurate as the tools change. If you want to know exactly which providers we use, ask us and we will tell you.

Beyond those, we share information only where we are legally required to, or where it is necessary to protect the safety or rights of a person. If the chamber ever merges with or transfers its operations to another organization, information would move with it, and we would tell you before that happened.

Whatever state you live in, and whether or not the law where you are requires it of us, you can ask us to:

• Tell you what information we hold about you
• Correct anything that is wrong
• Delete your information
• Stop sending you email, which you can also do from the unsubscribe link in any message we send
• Remove your business from the directory
• Name the specific service providers we use

Write to hello@manchestercommerce.org and we will act on it. We will not make you fill in a form to do it. We aim to respond within thirty days. A self-serve version of this is on the roadmap.

We keep information for as long as it serves the purpose you gave it for, and then we remove it.

• Email list entries are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove you
• Event registrations are kept for the event and for a reasonable period afterwards, so we can follow up and plan future sessions
• Member account information is kept while the account is active, and removed on request after it closes
• Website measurement is kept in aggregate and is not tied to you

The website uses the cookies necessary to make it work, including keeping you signed in on the member platform. We count page views in aggregate to understand which pages are useful. Those counts set no cookies of their own, and web addresses that name a specific business are shortened before they are recorded, so a page count cannot be traced back to a particular business. We do not run advertising trackers or third-party advertising cookies on our own site.

If you see one of our advertisements on a social platform, that platform's own tracking applies within its service. That is governed by their privacy policy rather than this one.

We protect information with the measures you would expect, including encrypted connections, access controls on the systems that hold it, and limiting who inside the organization can see what. No system is perfect and we will not claim otherwise. If information we hold were ever exposed, we would tell the people affected.

Our services are for businesses and the adults who run them. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, tell us and we will remove it.

The date at the top reflects the current version. If a change materially affects how we handle your information, we will tell the people on our email list rather than relying on you to notice.

This notice replaces the interim privacy notice dated 5 June 2026, which was written while the chamber was still in formation. It names the responsible organization and jurisdiction, which the interim notice said a later version would do, and it extends coverage to the website, events and advertising, which the interim notice did not address.
